A snapshot of a week in Loreto

Every week, our school is buzzing with activity, and these highlights are just a snapshot of the many incredible things happening across our community. From academic achievements to sports victories and creative initiatives, our students continue to shine in so many ways. Here’s a look at some of the exciting events and accomplishments from the last week.

Senior Gaelic Football

A huge congratulations to our Senior Gaelic Football team, who emerged victorious in a hard-fought battle against Coláiste Íosagáin to win the Dublin region title and advance to the Leinster Semi-Final. The team delivered superb performances across the pitch. Aisling Murphy was outstanding in goal, making some crucial saves, while Phoebe Macken dazzled with a phenomenal display of points and goals, showcasing her sensational finishing skills. The Player of the Match, Lile Tully, gave an exceptional all-round performance, leading the team with her skill and determination. This remarkable win establishes our school as the top Gaelic Football school in Dublin this year—an incredible achievement by a group of talented and dedicated players. We also extend our best wishes to both our Junior and Senior teams as they prepare for their Leinster Semi-Finals. Well done, everyone!

Cross Country Athletics

Congratulations to our Minor, Junior, and Senior Cross Country teams on their fantastic performances at the Dublin Schools Cross Country Event held in St. Anne’s Park, Raheny this week. Facing a tough and hilly course, our athletes rose to the challenge, delivering outstanding races across all categories. A special mention goes to Clodagh and Romi, who placed an impressive 14th and 15th respectively in the Junior race. In the Senior competition, Ashley achieved an incredible 3rd place overall, playing a pivotal role in helping our Senior team secure 2nd place in the team competition. Well done to all the runners for their hard work, determination, and excellent team spirit.

2nd and 5th Year Retreats

Our Second and Fifth Year students recently participated in their annual retreats, led by the inspirational Mr. Gerry Keegan. This year, the retreats centered around two powerful messages: “You are special” and “You are loved by God”. The retreats offered a perfect balance of fun and reflection, featuring music quizzes, team-building exercises, and workshops that encouraged students to engage with their own spiritual and personal growth. Gerry shared aspects of his own faith journey, inspiring students to reflect on their own lives and experiences in a meaningful way. Throughout the week, students were treated to Gerry’s exceptional musical performances, with many lucky participants leaving with free copies of his CD, “Love is Patient.” Gerry  has been facilitating retreats at Loreto Balbriggan since 1993, and his visits continue to be a highlight of the school year. We are already looking forward to welcoming Gerry back in November 2025.

Fundraising Bake Sale

Congratulations to our TY Fundraising Committee for their fantastic work hosting a bake sale last week in support of Meningitis Research Ireland. Their efforts raised an impressive €260 for this important cause. We would also like to give a special mention to our past pupil, Amy O’Connell, who kindly dropped by to lend a hand as a representative of the charity. It was wonderful to see Amy back in the school, sharing her passion for this cause and supporting our students. Thank you to everyone who baked, donated, or purchased treats at the bake sale—your generosity has made a difference! Well done to the TY students for their dedication and teamwork in organizing such a successful event.

Irish Funds Financial Literacy Programme

Our Transition Year Economics students were proud recipients of certificates and pins to mark the successful completion of the Irish Funds Financial Literacy Programme. This engaging and informative programme equipped our students with essential financial skills, including budgeting, saving, investing, and understanding the fundamentals of financial decision-making. Through workshops and activities, the students gained valuable insights into managing money effectively and preparing for a financially secure future. The certificates and pins presented symbolise not only their hard work but also their commitment to developing life-long financial literacy skills.
